Yes, this is their origin story, and it ends up being everything I ever wished it to be.
Just like the video-games, The Witcher world is so magical, whimsical, full of twists, and it never disappoints. Sapkowski's storytelling weaves a rich tapestry of fantasy, philosophy, and human emotion, inviting readers to ponder the nature of evil and the choices that define us.

Subtitled Introducing the Witcher, this collection takes place before the rest of the saga of Geralt of Rivia, the eponymous Witcher.
The Last Wish was first translated into English in 2007 by Danusia Stok. Queen Calanthe resists, leading to chaos when Pavetta's magic erupts. His encounters with Nivellen, Renfri, and Yennefer highlight his struggle to balance duty with personal ethics.
“People”—Geralt turned his head—“like to invent monsters and monstrosities. Its presence challenges characters, forcing them to confront desires and limitations. Geralt is sent to kill her, but someone gives him a tip that if he prevents the werewolf from going back to its coffin for three days, she will turn into an ordinary girl.Geralt accepts, understanding the peril and complexity of the task, as it involves not just a monster but a royal scandal.
The Beast's Unexpected Hospitality
Geralt meets Nivellen, a cursed beast
On his journey, Geralt encounters Nivellen, a man cursed to live as a beast. A tavern brawl leads to his arrest, but the castellan, Velerad, offers him a task: to lift a curse from a striga, the daughter of King Foltest, born from an incestuous affair.
Then they seem less monstrous themselves.”
The events in these seven stories take place before Sword of Destiny, which is another short story collection, and before Blood of Elves, the first actual full length novel in this series. The conflict with Renfri and events in Blaviken demonstrate the complexities of power and ethical dilemmas faced by those who wield it.
Yennefer of Vengerberg
An ambitious and powerful sorceress
Yennefer seeks power and control, aiming to capture a djinn.
And seeing Geralt and Yen's origin story gave me all the feels (sorry Triss fans, but gtfo.)
I'm going to break down each story with my personal feelings and beliefs. They both possess a mighty power. Again, Geralt and Dandelion are together and decided to fish up breakfast. Geralt realizes he can use the djinn’s wishes, so he uses his last wish to save Yennefer.
The collection was first published in Polish in 1993, although several stories had previously been published as part of a separate collection in 1990.
